Hello! I sure hope someone out there can help me. My husband passed away and left a 1968 Corvette that I am trying to sell. It would sure help if I was able to answer any questions potential buyers may have. Here is my question if you can please help.

I know that I have a big block engine 427 Downdraft 4 barrel. I have trying to figure out what "L" series it is. Can anyone help out

According to the last two letters of the engine stamp IQ indicates that you have a L36 which is a 427/390 HP.

I suggest you checking online for a Corvette club in your area that could help you. They may be able to assist you in finding an appraiser to get an accurate value.

Hi, first of all, I'm very sorry for your loss, and wish you the very best.

On value, etc., here are some thoughts:

The 'IQ' engine identification code would be a 390 hp 427, 4 barrel carb, hydraulic lifters, and automatic transmission. I'm guessing it's an automatic, yes?

The car looks VERY nice, and black is a very desirable color. In order to help you with value, it will be helpful for us to have more information:

• Full picture, as close as possible and in focus, of the engine code so that we can see the VIN that is stamped after the engine identification code.
• A picture of the VIN that is on the driver's side pillar - you can take it through the windshield.
• A picture of the data plate that you can see when you open the driver's door.
• A list of options such as power steering, brakes, a/c, hard top, etc. If you don't really know, we can help you with the pictures I'll mention below.
• Pictures of the car from additional angles, pictures of the interior, the dash, engine compartment, and underneath the car if you can.
• Miles on the car and any documentation you may have.

If you can get us as much of the above information as possible, we can provide some guidance. You'll find this forum full of very helpful people - and we especially want to help given your situation.

I neighbor was in a similar situation last year
i helped her find an appraiser who estimated the car to be worth $39,000
the motor (L36) block had been replaced (had not been started in over 10 years)
the car was blue convertible
the car was a one owner
She sold it for $28,000

Not a bad deal either way. Without the original engine you take a significant value adjustment. Sad……considering a one owner car.

Take it to an appraiser that knows Corvettes or provide the information to the Forum that Hopper12 suggested. Based on the limited info and the one picture, according to Corvette Magazine most recent Buyers Guide that vehicle can be worth $40K. A lot more info and pics need to be provided to determine actual worth.

i might be interested depending on location and I would think you should get it appraised so you know your getting a fair price.
