Default Heater Control Valve on a 72 w A/C

I have a 72 Corvette with A/C that the fan motor is blowing out cool air when in the heat position and the temp wheel on hot. The system is not leaking from the heater core. I'm looking to change out the Heater Control Valve but I'm having a hard time finding it. Does anyone have any pics that can tell me where it's located? Also, the Corvette parts houses have different HCV's for sale. Which one is needed? Thanks in advance for any help.

Remove the passenger side egg crate, you will see it. You might want to replace the heater hoses while you're in there.

Thanks for your response ... I followed the heater hoses down under the car where they go into an area that I can't get into. Never thought about taking out the egg crate. The hoses look good so far but I'll take a better look at them when I get to the HCV.

Your HCV seems to look like this aftermarket one ... yes?

Maybe you're referring to the Corvette Heater/Air Conditioning Control Vacuum Valve, Three Port, 1969-1976, and not the water valve.

Actually, yes, I was (your link went to rickscamaro). Is that located behind the egg crate too? My issue is no heat and the thermostat is relatively new. Just trying to locate the problem.

These valve don't exist on a '72. You have the heater hoses running from the water pump and intake manifold directly to the heater core. If you're not getting heat, you have either an air lock in the heater core or the blend door isn't working.

Thanks, no wonder I was coming up with nothing. Not trying to be stupid here ... but, what is a blend door?

Check the feel of the heater water hoses near the firewall, they should be as hot as the radiator hose. IF NOT then there is a blockage.

As stated 72's don't have a water shutoff, but some owners added them.

Thanks for the advice ... I thought it kinda strange that parts houses sold a HCV for a 72 but I couldn't find it on my car. I bought a new thermostat for it too. Mr Gasket High Performance 180 degrees ... going to start there first since I definitively don't know how old the one on the car is. Taking it out Thursday for new tire installation and an alignment. I'll check the hoses then.

It sounds to me as if the heater control cable may be the issue. This cable attaches to a lever on top of the heater box inside the car to the heater control.

If not then I'd look for some kind of blockage in the hoses... is the water passing through the heater core? You can flush the core to tell.

And check because some people will install a deadman valve in the system to block the water flow entirely through the heater core.
