Default Integrating With Factory Alarm

For those who add a remote keyless entry (RKE) system similar to those from ReadyRemote, here are some schematics that somewhat update that primitive factory alarm.

Notable features are ignition kill and automatic arming/disarming of the factory alarm system. The system will also arm with or without the roof panels installed. I believe that '78+ have alarmed roof panels.

Circuit numbers and wire coloring are from '79 schematics. There are only minimal modifications to the factory wiring and the system is doubly fail safe in that normal factory operation is retained and failure of the RKE module will not affect starting/operation.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:

Main input (top left relay) is "RKE armed" from the remote keyless entry module. For ReadyRemote such provides a minimal ground only when the doors are locked via the remote control.

Power from circuit 40 (CTSY circuit) is supplied to the coil of the ALARM INTERFACE RELAY at all times. When the RKE system is armed via the remote ground is provided to the ALARM INTERFACE RELAY coil. This closes the normally open contact providing +12V "armed power"(from circuit 40) for other use.

"Armed power" energizes the coil of the ALARM REMOTE ARM/DISARM RELAY. This is a double pole relay with both contacts normally open. When closed one pole connects circuit 261 with 263 thus bypassing the ANTI THEFT CONTROL SWITCH (arming switch). This will arm the factory alarm system. With the coil energized, the second pole provides +12V to the coil of the ROOF PANEL BYPASS RELAY.

If one or both roof panels are removed circuit 263 (alarm contacts) is grounded. Connector #124 provides access to ONLY the roof panel contacts. With one or both roof panels removed ground will be provided to the ROOF PANEL BYPASS RELAY which opens the roof panel portion of circuit 263 via the relay contact. If both panels are installed when the system is armed the relay coil will not energize and the roof panels will be included in the alarm circuit.

"Armed power" also provides +12v to the coil of the IGNITION KILL RELAY. The normally closed contact of this relay is connected in circuit 3. When energized (open) no power will pass from the starter switch to the distributor.
