The ones I built for myself and a couple other members here have been fine without all the billet parts. I think one is behind about 400 hp. I've got one here all built and ready to go, but I will only sell it locally in case there is a problem with it, I can deal with it and also make sure the bugs are worked out on install.
I see this kind of like a Dewitts radiator, there is the most expensive, which may also be the best, and there are less expensive ones that will still do the job just fine.

That one from CK will probably take 800 hp with slicks. For the street, you can get by with a lot less expense.

Been awhile since I've been here.

Seems all my posts start that way......
Bought my 2004r from a bud at his storage place. Figured if someone
valued it enough to pay storage...........
Anyway, it was $50. bolted right in with some tweeks there and here.
Toggle switch the lockup (like a fifth gear. really impresses my buds).
And away we went. (never look back).
Guy said it was from a station wagon. So the valve body is programed for a heavy car. Nice firm shifts. Our 81 is 3000lbs or so. No fat chicks....
So there is your value/fun ratio. Do your own install. Your going to like.
Ramair in calif.

I think I'm going with Tansdepot Th200 4R transmission.

They have a hell of a warranty and they have been recommended here in the thread.

I just bit the bullet and ordered a set up from Art Carr's California Performance Transmission. Talked to Art himself too.

I installed mine from level 2 BTO in 2003.
I added the B&M controller in 2005.
Both have worked fine for my daily driver type. Never race it but it sure made the car a lot more fun to drive after the motor build and 3:55 gears. Somewhere around 275-300 hp
i get about 18mpg on road trips
