Default Richmond 5 spd Leaky Seals

Not sure of the vintage, but fairly new non-OD Richmond 5 speed tranny.
Has shift shaft seals leaking.

EDIT...FINALLY got the seals, can the new ones just be pushed over the old ones, like on other transmissions??

And, can leaks be caused by shifter linkages being out of adjustment? This Hurst is very notchy, not real smooth.

TIA, Mike

Just for giggles, I hit the google machine. Not that I would expect to see it in Walmart, but at least there is info to look at.

Probably an optical illusion of some sort... the part # is the same as listed above with #44

The old shift fork seals need to come out first on the Nash/Richmonds. Obviously much easier if trans is out of car.

If you have not already seen Paul Cangialosi's videos on Richmond tear down and improvements, they are worth a watch. Around the 16:20 mark on the second part he talks about the fork seal install.

I have owned many cars with Nash/Richmond transmissions over the years. My opinion fwiw on the Hurst shifter is that the notchy feel is in the selector and linkage, should be able blueprint and adjust it which will help. Or replace with a Long shifter, which is the better choice for those transmissions.

That it my transmission that Paul used in the videos. Shifts great on the bench lol! Can't wait to get it in the car.

I gotta say Paul's expertise really shows in the videos! I am looking forward to tweeking my Hurst and getting the new seals in ASAP, but so much easier out of the car....

Hope you enjoy the 5 spd as much as I do

Bill,

Reviving an old thread here. Was reading up on Richmonds and watched the videos. How did it turn out? Shift easier?

Mike, I am embarrassed to say I don’t have the car together yet. Turned into a body off. Should be going in the spring though. Every once in awhile I run it through the gears on the stand though and it feels great lol!

I certainly understand project creep. Have fun with your project.

I have a richmond and it is very notchy (if that's a word). There's some interesting stuff in the video especially the fit of the barrels.

Not sure what I'm going to do. Have the original muncie sitting on a shelf. I may rebuild/reinstall it. Then sell the richmond. running out of room in the garage to store spare parts.
