Pertronix Installation

Now that I have the Pertronix installed (with a lot of help from all of you). My local Napa guy says I should change the gap on my sparkplugs by adding about .008 of an inch to the gap or even change to a hotter plug. Is he right?

Hi
The reduced voltage via the resistor is for the coil.
Early coils are build for 10V and fry if operated too long at 13 V +.
Hence, it depends on the coil you're using if you should retain the resistor or not.
I'm running Pertronix 1 since 2002 with the resistor because I kept the coil, did not use the Pertronix coil.
The Petronix itself is just a switch, like the old contacts.
At least this is how I understand the system.

The Ignition physics sticky here in C3 Tech explains why.

Well, since this is still an issue I will answer the last question. You have to get a 12v test light and find a fuse in your fuse block that is only hot when the key is switched on. One side of fuse may be hot always but other side is hot w switch only. Remove fuse block and attach a red 14gauge stranded wire to this fuse and run it thru firewall and to + side of coil. This is what I did as per directions. Works perfect. Some friends are just using yellow wire to wiper washer as 12v feeder.

You're responding to a dead, 5 year old thread. He's probably got it figured out by now.

You aren’t wrong.
There is loads of great information in these old threads.
Using it is a great tool, and asking questions is ok.
Some times people don’t realize it’s an old thread and just start making comments.
All is good.

Its fine to access information in old threads. Thats why we dont delete them. The problem comes when people “answer the last question” like the conversation is ongoing, when in fact the question was posted 5 years ago.
