Well this weekend did it for me. I was at a car show on Sunday, and a fellow had a 79 vette with hooker black side pipes on it. Car looked great, but after sitting in it and trying to get in and out i have decided against them. He showed me his burnt legs too. lol

And your making your decision from someone who enjoys burning their legs or doesn't have the common sense to prevent burns by installing heat shields?

The way I get in my 'Vette, and my other cars as well, is I sit first, then swing my legs in. Tried it many times with side pipes mocked up, it's easy if you are careful.

Have had side pipes for 7 years now. I don't have any difficulty getting in and out with them.

As far as burning you leg, it's kind of like like this; If you drive in the rain you may want to have wiper blades. If you have side pipes you may want to have heat shields. Up to you.
My Dean's shields are never hot eonugh to burn. I can lay my hand right on them after driving and not get burned.

I have side pipes on my restro Mod, Just from starting the engine while body is off the frame I can tell they would burn. I'm going to put heat shields on mine before I take it's maiden voyage...
