I'm looking at some torque thrust II's for $600 that are 17x8 but the backspacing is 4.82in. The tires are Front 225/55r17 rear 235/60r17. Will they fit my '68?
With 8" wheels you want 4" back spacing [standard on all c3s except 68s]. With an extra .82 x2 =1.64 b/s you are making your wheel track narrower, therefore decreasing the handling. Also with that much b/s the rear wheel will also occupy the same space as the p/k calbe mount, possibly the spring. T
What terry6t8roadster said. In short too much backspace,

nope, not without a spacer. On 68s, an 8 inch rim 15" wheel with 4 inch back space and 9.3 inch wide tires just clears the the bracket holding the parking brake and the tire clears the cable and spring by less than an inch. A 17 Inch with 4 inch BS will just clear the cable with the 9.5 inch tires but shouldnt hit the bracket, The 68 has a narrower fender than later c3's and was designed for a 7" rim. You can create more room by moving the bracket and cable to the top for wider rims
I would buy them with the tires for $600, but you are creating work for yourelf. A 3\4 inch spacer will help you out with the spring

235/60 15 tire on 8 inch oem rim
tire even with outside of fender spring space clip from bracket almost hitting
Your rear wheel will be 9.3 inches wide so with a spacer they will look close to the pictures, but they are an inchtaller than stock so your speedo will be slow

Do Not Use spacers,if you must adapt wheels, use only Concentric Adapters.
All corvette wheels are concentric to the hub, if you use spacers you loose this,
which insures the wheel is perfectly centered on the hub.
I suggest pass and get the correct fittings wheels.
Just bought 17" TT IIs with 4.07 backspacing and there's no problems at all. Pretty much everything I read in the Forum prior to buying said that's the way to go.
