Default l82 valve cover paint questions

I removed all the old paint from my aluminum valve covers. In the process of sanding they are now between dull and highly polished. At first I liked the look but now not so sure.

So, if I paint them, what is the correct color? I think gloss black?

Should I use a primer on them first?

Should I use hi temp paint?

As always, thanks for the help.

I used semi-gloss engine paint when redoing mine.

I'm just finishing up mine. I sanded them down smooth, primed with Dupli-Color self etching primer and then used Dupli-Color engine enamel in Chevy Orange. I sanded the paint off the top of the fins and then sprayed them with engine enamel clear coat and baked 'em in the oven.....no, she wasn't home

I think they turned out pretty good. Just got to stick on the new emblem and they'll be done. I'll post up a pic or two when they are finished.
