Default 1979 L82 with 25,500 miles Tune-Up?

The car only has 25,500 miles and is running well. However, everything is original and close to 38 years old. The car was manufactured May 1979. Only thing I've done to it so far is change the oil and filter. I actually had it done at a local Chevy Dealer that was running a special two weeks ago for $9.99 (oil and filter). I plan on replacing all the belts (I ordered the complete OEM set) myself.

I don't think the plugs have every been changed so I'm thinking about putting in a fresh set of OEM AC Delco R45TS plugs. Should I replace the wires due to the age even if they only have 25,500 miles on them? I've read it's a real PITA to replace the wires. Like I said, the car is running well but I think it could be better.

I plan on having all the other fluid's changed (transmission, coolant and P/S), also. Just taking it one step at a time since I just replaced all four brake calipers and installed new 18x8 wheels/tires to replace the original 38 year only 15x7 Goodyear Polysteel Radials and steel wheels (I'm keeping the originals in storage for show).

Plugs don't go bad with age, they wear out from being used. So 38 year old plugs could still be in good condition, but a cleaning and re-gapping wouldn't hurt. Wires on the other hand do deteriorate with age. I would replace them.

If you decide to change plugs, you should consider installing iridium type. They last SOOOO much longer, the difference in cost is worth it, IMO. Especially since they are in a Corvette engine which isn't the easiest place to change plugs. If you change plugs, you should also change wires. 38 year old rubber can be cracked and allow leakage of hi-voltage spark signal to the plugs.

You should change out all fluids (brake, diffy, P/S, auto trans) UNLESS you find records that indicate they were changed more recently. YOU need to know that what protects your car's components is up to snuff.

I would probably do a full tune up but that is just me.Plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.Might as well throw a weight/spring kit in the distributor for some more snap.Don't forget the fuel filter also.

Snap a pic with the wheels for us.

You may be well advised to change your oil again, it is doubtful it has sufficient levels of zinc. In the event it wipes out a couple lobes on you can a tune up will be the least of your worries.
