Apparently not all temp sending units are the same
Since my engine was down to bare block, the temp sending unit was replaced. Now my temp gauge reads around 220* but my thermostat housing is at 185* according to my temp laser. Do I keep replacing it with different ones til I find one that's right for my gauge? Anybody got any suggestions?

I bought a external gauge and mounted it under the hood of the car as a double check. This gauge reads properly , but at least I know where the in dash gauge reads when properly running.
The in dash gauge reads about 15 degree's colder than the actual temp.

Consider acquiring the Willcox adjustable resistor for your temperature gauge. Works fantastic. Here's my story:

I have tested every sender available... Wells TU5, standard, borg, Gm, and all other aftermarket senders. It is very unlikely that any aftermarket sender will work and even the so called "correct" sender is missing the oil inside (I cut one open)...
The adjustable resistor will solve any issue with any sending unit because it will make a linear change to the non linear gauge... and if it doesn't work perfectly, I'll take it back

Any way to wire something inline without having to pull the gauge panel?
Edit: I see this on your site for 79-80. Is it correct?

Don't forget this... https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...resistor-77-82
I was glad I finally did it (and I didn't even need my gauge since my digital indicator already told me my temp, but I'm glad my temp gauge reads correctly )
