So, as a start I've ordered the proper lower radiator hose and a new thermostat from Ecklers.
I will let y'all know if these cure my hot running at high speeds condition.

Thanks again,

First things first. Properly directed air solves most issues. When your fan is running, it moves air like electricity flows....it seeks the path of least resistance. So if it CAN pull air around the radiator easier than it can pull air through the radiator, guess what?
It will.
I presume you are running a mechanical fan?

Yup, it's the mechanical fan.

Everything works fine, up to about 70 - 75 mph. Then, the temps slowly start to creep up.

Anyone running an electric fan like me? My 73 has a worked 350 and at highway speeds my temp gauge will rise sometimes to 210-220....When I start to slow down or there is traffic or an exit, it will return to 180 degrees......

It's basically always done that.....It will rise with sustained speeds of 70-75 but come down as I slow or come to a stop....

Have you gone through your timing to see what advance you are getting and when?

If you're asking me, yes, I just set the timing a couple of weeks ago.

I asked because retarded timing can make a difference in engine temps. A sticking centrifugal advance or non functioning vacuum advance can cause problems. What did you set the timing to? How much centrifugal advance and is the vacuum can advancing correctly?

mine did the exact same thing, as soon as i go above it would climb above 210. I changed the thermostat to a 180*. no more problem, cruise at 80 all day long, jump up to 95 to pass, temp stays the same

I set the timing to 36 degrees at 3000 RPM. Adjusted the fuel/air mixture on the Quadrajet carb to spec.

The car now runs MUCH better. No more popping through the carb.

It's still really cold-blooded, though. I'm guessing the choke is probably not working properly. I haven't worked my way to the advance settings, yet.
