I have a 1972 corvette convertible with a carter quadrajet carb with numbers that start with the number 3 and one with the number 6, it is a 350ci 200 hp engine. Any help the car sat for a long time before I purchased it and running it with new gas it has failed and leaking gas. Should I rebuild this carb or replace it.
WE will need more info....What is it doing when trying to run....? Where is it leaking...? Did you put a new filter in...? Did you clean out the gas tank....?

What's the entire number? There are a lot of Carter carbs that start with the numbers 6 and 3. Most Carter-built Q-Jets in 1972 started with "42XXX". You need to post the entire number and date code to determine what you have. Are you sure it's a Q-Jet and not an AFB or a Thermo-Quad..?
I rebuilt my Carter after it sat for 16 years. Worked ok for about 30 miles then the floats started sticking (or something like that, gas pored into the primarys) I just went ahead and bought a Eldebrock and threw it right on, fires up with no issues. Did want to keep messing with the old pitted carb.

The decision to rebuild it or not depends on what the carb is and what condition it's in. Anything can be rebuilt and repaired. The question only becomes whether or not it's worth it: If it's the correct, original carb, rebuild it. If it's a commercially rebuilt Q-Jet off of a 73 1/2-ton truck, don't bother.

You do know that the "Edelbrock" carb is a Carter carb...
