how to repair a Muncie with a broken ear?
Can you repair an aluminum case 4sp Muncie that has an ear broken off?
I suppose you could dress up the break, fashion a new ear out of aluminum bar stock with an angle for hopefully a full penetration weld, and try to weld it up with minimum heat?
Any suggestions or experiences to share?
Much thanks.

had that happen to two; one weld held the other one broke soon as I torqued the trans down
Think autogear?? makes some stouter cases

I would take the trans to a professional welding shop and have them do the repair.

Great and thanks!
Ok and great, much thanks for the responses!
My speculation, but I bet the previous person got frustrated with trying to get that last 1/4"+/- makeup that is always a PITA. Lucky for me, my wife pushes the clutch in and out and I have always been able to get it to finally and fully engage.

I had an ear repaired on my Muncie about two years ago. The welding shop I took it to did a great job. I didn't have the broken ear so they had to make one out of aluminum bar stock. I was surprised how little they charged me and they repaired a crack in the case that I didn't know about.
