New rear fiber optic for about 40 bucks
My 68 is a nice car but the fiber optic system in the rear was not working so well. I traced the cables and found 2 cables had been cut and spliced back together. The lights up on the shift console where very dim. So i decided to replace the fiber cables. First i measured the cable 3/32 of an inch. I went on line and found a place to order the cable. Fiberopticproducts.com The price was very inexpensive .55 a foot ordered 60 feet it was a little over 40.00 with shipping. I first started but cutting my old cables at the ferrules. I used a number 51 drill bit to get the old cable out of the ferrules. Just hold them in a vice, don't crank down on them too hard and dill out the old fiber cable. Run your new cable put on your rubber caps and reinstall the ferrules. Don't worry about crimping the new cables they will be a snug fit. No need to crimp. Plug in your new cables. Now my rear optics are nice and bright. I hope this post will help if you need to replace your cables on a budget. Any questions please feel free to ask. old city

Yes The cable is 3/32 of an inch E1000 simplex cable.1968-69 used that size.I have heard that 1970-71-72- use a different size fiber cable. If you are replacing those years i wound measure the diameter of the cable before ordering. They carry many sizes of cable.
