Big block full ignition shielding bracket
What intake bolt do the brackets attach to? Is it the rear most or further forward? I have it on the rear most bolts but seems to close to the wiper motor.

Hi D,
I think in your photo the right side bracket is too far back on the right side.
Notice how close it is to the firewall mounted wiper door limit switch.
Are you CERTAIN you're using the correct brackets.
Regards,
Alan

Melting Slicks
I don't think I have even 3/16" from the end of the "L" shaped bolt on bracket with the threaded bolt to my distributor box. This is on a 435 car, but I believe all 69 BB brackets are the same. The box won't fit if the supports are mounted on using another mounting location. SB and BB supports the same? I don't know. Do your supports have the extra studs for the plug wire grounds? I'm assuming you have BB supports since you have braided plug wires. My pictures aren't the best, but it may show some reference distances.

Big block brackets use the rear manifold bolt on both sides. Below is a 69. The gap between the shielding and washer looks small but is just over a half an inch. Are you using the right brackets or is one bent?

The brackets are the correct ones per the catalogs. Need to verify that I wasn't having a brain fart and put them on wrong sides. That close the washer pump concerns me.

There is nothing on either side to prevent the brackets from being bolted down a bit out causing the box to sit slightly crooked. If the left side bracket is turned a bit forward on the manifold and the passenger side mount bolted down on the manifold turned a bit to the rear, the back of the box could come close to the washer pump.

Ok. Further to above, the big block brackets turn outwards or swivel on the manifold bolts. You can see below how the bracket will turn forward or back on the bolt. Loosen the right side manifold bolt just enough so you can turn the bracket forward a bit. This will move the entire box forward on the right side.

What's This For?
Sorry to be dredging up an old post, but on a related note, I just received a repop distributor shield kit for 427 w/ 3 X 2. On the front of the box there's a "serrated" tab riveted to the front of it (see pic). It's shown in the AIM (U69-A6) but it's not clear to me what it's for. About the only thing I can think of is that it gets "wedged" between the upper and lower halves of the shield box to ensure electrical continuity.

I believe it's a spring type ground strap that rests up against the base. My 69 BB has it from factory. I guess the base itself sits on the carb gasket and the filter is between it and the lid/hold down stud so no ground for the base. No idea why they thought it was needed but it's there...
