Marvel Mystery oil gets a thumbs up!
This Marvel Mystery oil is an ancient remedy that seems to be everything it claims from what I have noticed after a little over a month of pleasure driving. Older engines get a boost from it seems as intended. Have to give it more time for a good check over on how it does but so far I like what's happening with engine performance and just running cleaner.

I have used it in many different engines, and it works. checks were showing low, so I add the recommended amount to the fuel, and then after several hours of operation, rechecked the compression and it improved. Note: This was in air cooled engines.
I have read that all MM oil is a very high detergent oil, and when used in the fuel it cleans the valves of any carbon residue, which in turn then allows the valves to work like designed.
Its really all a mystery, but my experience has proven it does work in this situation. As for using it in oil, I have no input to the discussion.

Burning Brakes
This is how good MM Oil is:
I had an inboard boat engine that locked up while out in the ocean. I was told a few days later that the motor had ingested salt water. I couldn't get back to the boat for a few days. An old mechanic told me to get MM Oil. When I got to the boat I pulled the sparkplugs, and got the motor to spit out salt water. I filled the cylinders with MM Oil and put the plugs back in. I let the motor sit for a week and went back, pulled the plugs, cranked it over until all the MM Oil was spit out. I changed the oil. Put some old plugs in and fired it up. Blew out smoke for 5 minutes and then cleaned up. Put in new plugs and ran the motor for several more years. It was still running perfect when I sold it.

not adding solvent to any oil not good for bearings...perhaps loosening rusty stuff or gummed up parts

MM is not a "high detergent oil", it is just plain old mineral oil and solvent with some dye and fragrance. nothing more.
since modern CAS#'s and MSDS, there is no "Mystery"...
Marvel Mystery Oil
<80% Naphthenic Hydrocarbons (fine, light mineral oil)
<30% Mineral Spirits
<1% 1,2-Dichlorobenzene (chlorinated benzene, ie. solvent)
red dye, oil of wintergreen for odor
personally I am not a fan of dumping anything but proper motor oil in the engine, and proper gasoline in the tank.

I wouldn't put MMO in the oil of a good running engine. It has its uses to solve some specific problems though as it has lots of detergents.
Years ago I had an old beater Cadillac (with the famous HT4100 V8). It developed a stuck lifter. I drove it for a couple weeks hoping it would free itself but it didn't. Not worth the time & money to take the engine apart so I put a pint of MMO in the oil and started it up. In less than a minute the clacking stopped. Drove the car for several more years and it ran fine.

Back in our kart racing days we used a mixture of MMO and gas to purge our methanol racing engines after a day at the track....When mixed with other solvents it made a pretty good tire prep as well. Never used it for anything else.

As for using it in oil, I haven't experimented because I do regular oil and filter changes, and most modern oils all have additives that are made to make it work better.
This is my experience, if you thinks its just B.S., then don't use it. I have nothing to gain by selling the stuff.

Hobby shop mix it with something I cant remember right now to create afterun oil for nitro powered RC cars. Helps preserve the cylinder and piston walls when started after sitting for awhile.

one will see arguements all day on stuff like this ie fixes in a can
yrs ago a noob was squeaking about the cost of brake fluid, so a member said sarcastically "use water instead"..well he did. And the car stopped
However a week later there was a thread titled "xxx member tried to kill me". LOL
Put in whatever you want, going to gargle with some Tide, it really cleans things up.

DAWN works better only Kidding ..
we used MMO on the old Model Airplane / r/c boat engines to clean them after a run. It does clean the fuel system and helps the lawn mower gas stay useable in the summer.
I use it to clean stuck parts and lube fine mechanisms. If you have a problematic stove clock it will clean the gears and the clock will run again. Just be sure to let the solvent evaporate.
Used it on a 1940ish Lionel train got it cleaned up enough to run ...
sometimes things work other times not...
