Default Under center console wiring

I have just restored the HVAC control unit and I have seen what it seems to be a couple unused/cancelled wires....orange and light gray.

I was trying to identify them. I suspect they are related to courtesy lights -which does not work BTW- but I'm not sure.

Any comment is welcome.

Thanks in advance

I BELIEVE that the orange wire powers your lighter. Suggest that you contact Forum member "papawana". He will email you a wiring diagram for your year C3. (Free) Also look at Doc Rebuild's site. He offers large laminated charts that also have photos of each connector and where they go. These are not only year specific but also incorporate running changes within each model year.(NOT free)

I have both and they have been invaluable.

Hi c,
Here are the connections for the lighter and it's lamp from a 71… doesn't look like what you're showing.
???
What does the connector on the orange wire look like? Might that offer a clue?
Regard,
Alan

Model year? Gray is illumination. Could be for the HVAC controls or possibly AT shifter. Orange is likely to be power for the lighter.

You right, apologies, we are talking about a year 74, 4 speed.

HVAC is working properly, even the lamp, so I don't think is HVAC related.

What Alan and Rotonda said makes sense because the cigarette lighter and lamp are not working, the funny thing is that there are different color wires connected to it.

I will post a picture later on.

Here is what we have.

Black color wire (coming from Green/black) for the cigarette lighter with bubba's connection at the end. The green/black seems to be for the Safe Neutral Switch for M40 trans. and my car is 4 speed from factory Bubba thinking?

Light blue color wire for the lighter lamp. I guess that the lamp in order to light to ground with the lamp housing....same as the cigarette lighter.

BTW, the gray color wire I was asking for is grounded somewhere...maybe a short and that's why is cancelled.

Manual cars don't have a neutral safety switch working at the console , its wired into the clutch pedal instead . Apparently the auto neutral/park safety switch wiring is still in the loom but not supposed to be used .

without a 74 wiring diagram I cant help with the light blue wire, but all years have the light grey illumination wire colour , every back light in your dash is powered by light grey wire.

Courtesy light wiring is white/ orange on my 69 and 77 so yours should be as well.
