1973 Passenger Side Hood Wont Release
Just got the new motor in my 73. My engine builder put the hood on and now cant get it open. when he hits the hood release both sides pop up, but the passenger side seems like its only come up off the initial release, but not coming up all the way. i can hear and feel the latch working, but its not letting it up all the way. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. scott

The latch is probably just a tad off in adjustment. Try pushing the hood from side to side and see if this lets it release.

we have been trying that, we will try it some more. i can see from lifting up the drivers side that it is releasing on the pass side, it just wont come all the way up. thanks willcox, much appreciated.

Hi Scott,
Since from what you describe it sounds like the female latch is releasing the probe but it's then getting caught on part of the latch.
Have you tried pushing down on that corner of the hood with some force with the latch set, pulling and holding the interior handle, and then quickly releasing that corner of the hood in hopes that the spring will help the latch to fly free of the probe?
Regards,
Alan
To help you visualize what both parts of the latch look like.

We got it, you guys were correct. jacked it up with stands under the door fender seam. let it sit for about 3 hours. tried it and it popped right up. Thanks again gentlemen.

i am having the same problem ,same side, except that it started with a broken primary release cable and have been trying to open it with just the drivers side up on a stand. your post has given me the re assurance that i can get it by messing with floorjacks on both sides or just the pass side i posted this problem a few days ago and as i responded to a helpful question i saw your post and figured i would chime in Thanks

Now make you a hood alignment fixture and you'll be set.

thanks for posting alignment tool pic and specs, i am about to make one so when i get out to the vette i will be able to get it aligned much faster then trial and try again method that got it stuck in the first place(yes the release cable broke trying to open it, but we had just put the hood back on and guessed at which direction to adjust the hood to open properly Thanks
