Default 80 Rear Diff question

I was stuck on a wet grassy hill. My Right rear tire dug a hole and the left rear tire was on dry dirt not moving. I know when car is in the air you can't spin tires in opposite directions of each other. So I was wondering what happened to my posi in this situation?

Having an 80, I would check the level and condition of the fluid.

If you know the car has posi... then you might check the clutches...

Thanks. I'm sure it's a clutch issue. I was thinking on replacing the rear for a highway ratio anyway

The 4 speed has the 3.07 ratio and I believe the automatic had a 3.70. Can you read the stamping on the rear in your vette? Mine I think was on the bottom in front of the cover. Of course that won't tell you if it been apart and different gears installed.
