Default rear stablizer install question for a 68 big block

Just finished installing new calipers on my 68 big block and have a question about the rear stabilizer install.

I checked the 68 AIM and some other AIM's and it looks like the rear stabilizer bar curves upward at each end and then attaches to the rear trailing arm link. PO installed the bar curving down. But I am not sure from looking at the AIM which is correct, I suppose you could install it one of two ways??? but one is correct I bet! It does not look like the bar was hitting the frame anywhere in the curved down position.

And, maybe my stabilizer bar is bent out but each link is pretty close to the nut on my new rear brake caliper line which I am not interested in damaging.

Trying to get it ready for the GNOCC show this Sat and thinking it might be smart to just remove the whole thing for the moment.

Any help is always appreciated.

Default Thanks Alan!

Thanks Alan for the super fast reply and great photo as always!

Yes, that is the way my stabilizer bar is positioned but the AIM does not look that way to me, maybe just the way the AIM dwg is made.

And looks like the links on each end are pretty close to the rear brake caliper. I would bend that stabilizer bar in a little if possible, but that is not going to happen! Hmmm, did probably a 1000 miles like it is, maybe no big deal, but maybe was the reason why my RR caliper was sticky too. I would guess the link is supposed to be straight vertical off the trailing arm.

Thanks again!

Your rear sway bar may seem really close but have no fear ...it will not hit.

Before you finish installing the rear sway bar completely...make sure your brake line that goes into the caliper is leak-free. Because....that sway bar does get in the way of being able to directly get to the flare nut on the brake line.

Default Thanks again!

Alan,

This is very helpful. Looks like that rear link is pretty close to the brake caliper per design. Interesting. Think I would have given it a little more clearance.

Thanks again!
