What spacers are you running? What is the maximum spacer width with stock lug nut bolts? Show/tell me what you got!
NOTE: this is not a thread to discuss whether spacers, or adapters are good or bad! Just tell me your experiences with spacers, please (- with stock lug nut bolts)

A lot depends on the wheels and lug nut type. When I use spacers I prefer to use wheels with shank type lugs. I make sure they protrude through the wheel and extend into the space to get the most thread engagement.
On cone style stuff the main thing is to ensure you have full thread engagement. If you can get 3 threads or more of stud showing outside of the nut you should be OK.
I don't really like using them with stock studs. I've done it with no trouble...but I upgraded to aftermarket/longer studs years ago.

I have to use a 3/8th spacer for my wheels to clear my rear brake calipers with my weld wheel and drag slicks
The wheels are 10 x 15 and they are wrong for our caliper clearance. I am using tapered nuts and I still have threads that comes out past the nuts. 5 inch bs
Weld aluminum wheels are really thin and lite weight you might have to install longer studs on a thicker cast aluminum wheel
For my street 12 x 17 wheels I am using 2 inch adapters with 7 inch BS
