If you look ath the vansteel ones you can see that the shaft looks somewhat smaller thickness than the one on our arms.
Check image 27 in this nice walkthrough!

Near as I can tell with arms still on the car using a vernier caliper, the tubular arm shaft width is 1" (25mm?). The stock control arm shaft ( I have the old, original ones) are 13/16". So, removing 3/16" (4mm?) should do it.

Getting close guys.
When this all pans out there are going to be a lot of folks jumping on the deal.
So much for the "Corvette tax".
Nice work everyone.

you'll have to check the distance of the ball joint from the inside edge of the cross-shaft as well on both old / new... i'll be surprised if they are within .100 of each other even factoring in the .1875 you said (3/16)

Where is it that we have to modify the mounting hole for the bolts to fit? I believe I read that somewhere in here? Elongate one of the holes?

seems to be some of them need to be slotted, some fit without mods, had to be slotted inwards 3/16 IIRC

So, I just got off the phone with my machine shop guy. I sent him a photo of the control arm and explained what I wanted done (machine the frame mounting points even with the center section), and he said no problem. Now I'm off to the garage to remove the arms. I'll update when I get them back from the machine shop.

Good work!
Thanks for saving me the work of putting my arms on and off the car.

Here you go:
FYI, that's the right side control arm.

Thanks for the picture...
So it's the aft(rear-most) hole that gets elongated, eh?

I have parts!!! I ran around singing christmas songs all day at work... and it worked!!!

control arms and the borgeson steering kit came in! Now to call in sick the rest of the week and hope the boss isnt watching here... 😆

and i have to say... WOW... if your looking for weight savings.... these arnt the arms for you... these things feel like they should be on my diesel!
Fishplates on the underside of the bushing elbows, massive welds, 3/8 thick shock mount for coilovers, i was about to buy some reinforecement plates from speedway, but i dont need them!

Going to get these to the machinist tomorrow morming and hopefully have them by friday... so excited now!

will do, gota find something sensitive enough to get an accurate measurement... but im pretty sure they are going to be heavier by a fair bit

im getting the mic out, going to check if the old cross shafts can be swapped into them, that would take probably 5lbs off just swapping them to the old ones

curious what im going to find the metal is... when I cut the swap bar tabs i'll use the super slow mode on my phone and see what the sparks show, the lowers feel like regular mild steel, but the uppers are either chromo or thin-wall steel

sorry all, got caught up in some personal issues and was delayed getting numbers till now.

Old Upper Control Arms: 8.25 lbs
New Upper Control Arms: 9.1 lbs

Old Lower Control Arms: 14.5 lbs
New Lower Control Arms: 18.75 lbs

IF, and a big IF... if the cross-shafts will interchange, we can knock off a HUGE amount of weight by swapping to the old cross shafts, OR offset cross-shafts which MAY-NOT need machining if we offset forward to gain our + camber back

Well machining the cross shafts will change the weight also but as you said we don't know the quality of the material that the cross shafts are made of.
My machinists said that he is a little worried if we machine the cross shafts to the thickness of the center section on the new arms.
