Door window adjustment
I need to put new plastic white grommets in the door windows.
One of them is totally missing.
I remember reading somewhere here that there is a manual out there explaining how these were put together and adjusted on the assembly line. --well, essentially how the whole car was assembled.
would someone help a moron out?

Hi my,
What year is the car you're working on?
Each year's Assembly Instruction Manual has a section on the assembly of the window and winder mechanism in the door shell and then the adjustment of the window so that it fits and seals properly.
Might that be what you're referring to?
Regards,
Alan

Hopefully you have the skills/tools to get into this and do this.
First off...if your door glass is currently set correctly.
Then it is somewhat quite simple. You mark the washers of all the bolts that you will remove so you can put them right back where they were.
This will give you a 'starting point'...so if you do need to go in and tweak the adjustment slightly...you can do so.
I am also assuming that you are replacing the window track 'rollers' also. They do wear out.
Knowing exactly which plastic washer you need to replace...can also be done without having to tear into the entire window assembly.

Here's a link to the instructions for adjustments. Just click on Corvette and then your model year. I'm not sure which page it would be on for your particular year model, but it was on 1B-13 for my 72.

I replaced both regulators and door glasses recently. I've been fiddling with the glass adjustment on the doors. I have all of the papers which Alan posted (good info by the way). I couldn't get things to seal up correctly using the GM procedure.
This worked for me...
I loosen all of the adjustment bolts and raise the window into the window weatherstrips with the door closed. I'm in the passenger seat while doing this.
Get out of car and put two suction cups (cheap at Harbor Freight) on the outside of the window.
Force the window up into the correct position.
Get back in the car through the passenger door and tighten all adjustment bolts.
Test window by rolling it up and down making sure the glass doesn't hit the blow out clips while going up. If it does the A post ws is going to need adjustment.
This worked for me. I hope it helps.
