Default 79-82 Seats in My 78

I just scored these (2) 80 seats for my 78 L-82 totally complete with all hardware including tracks...for $200 for the pair which I thought was a deal. Couple of questions:

I am going to completely replace them with 100% leather installed over new foams...I covered completely the front and rear seats of my 2010 Chrysler 300 in new leather so I know how to install seat covers but this time I am going to buy the 4 cushions complete with new 100% leather already installed on new foam. I will re spray all the other components in Doeskin...By chance, my 78 has Doeskin interior and these just happened to be doeskin colored

I am looking for opinions and comments on 2 inch bolster versus 4 inch bolsters for the redo....advantages or disadvantages for each? You can get either one on the new seats.

Also, I am considering buying the complete cushions from Ecklers, ZIP, Willcox, or Al Knoch (do not like their website at all BTW)...they are all the same price. Which one?

See if you can get them in ALL leather. The vinyl covered bolsters will start cracking within only 6 months if it's a daily driver because no matter how hard you try to NOT squash it when getting in and out you WILL squash it. And it's the daily squashing that causes it to crack so soon. I have the 4" bolsters and next time I'll try the 2" bolsters and see if they last longer.

Yes, I was going 100% all leather. I have been reading the 4 inch Bolster will hold you in the seat more firmly which I figured and I do drive spirited on curvy roads....so I probs will go 4 inch for me and my car which is modified with much more HP and handles like a modern sportscar, not like a factory 78 C3.............

Thanks for the response...

I just did this 6 months ago. I used the Corvette America units, and am very pleased. I am sure Wilcox can drop ship them.
They look great, feel great, and went in very easily. CA has a great video on the how.
I have lost faith in Al Knoch. I ordered their dash and sent it back. POS.

Same here - last winter I did new pre-assembled leather seats through Wilcox (CA units too). More than satisfied with them.

Closing the loop on the install and rebuild of these 1980 seats for my 78.

Total cost including the donor seats was $1,000 with 100% new leather covers and new foams and my free labor..I could have done the conversion for MUCH less using vinyl, Leatherette, or Leather/vinyl combo.....

The 79-82 (and PC 78) seats are so much more comfortable than the earlier year C3 seats AND actually hold you in place when driving spirited. I could not be happier with this style seats. I was looking for a sport seat BUT like most decisions with my C3 I wanted to keep it as much C3 as possible and not aftermarket or other generation Corvette seats...thus the 79-82 bolstered seats....They are GREAT compared to the unsupportive 78 seats...For $1,000 for both seats...deal!!!

OEM 78 versus 80 seat 100% leather

Donor 1980 seats

80 passenger seat versus OEM 78 Driver seat

1980 Seats completely redone

Undergoing Doeskin Paint
