Dart platinum 200 heads
#21
I have the Dart 200 Platinums and I am pushing a solid 500 horsepower.
It is a 406 with a Comp 292 Magnum cam and a Team G.....worked 750HP carb up top......
Over 400 ft/lbs. torque available from 2500 to 6000........
I believe the Dart 200 will support 550 horsepower or better.....the SHP head? No.

little over 600 lift . It had good Dino numbers but only showed 500 at the tires. Ran 10 teen's in a 2750 lb car , 3:55 gear and 26 in. Tall tires. So your motor looks real good to me with that cam. The fact that it did that well on a 406 says something for the heads. Gives me something to think about.i have to use a 350 block so the stroke is what I have to work with to get cu. in,

Looks good. Who's carb ? I have a AED 750 looks like yours. I have to use a duel plain Chevy LT-1 intake. I had a 406 track one heads with roller cam

I use 4 hole wood spacers under the carb for thermal protection and Higher atomization.

I've never really understood what you were doing............. But TQ which is an equation X cubic inch So the biggest cubes wins. I don't build 383's anymore because 3.875 stroker forged kits don't cost anymore than a 3.750. But I have had a few friends that built 408 ci 4 inch stroker 350 small blocks with billet steel main caps and studs

That is where the dart heads come in. The duel plane intake scares me . I question just where it will stop the power, at some point adding cu. in just does not work well. And again got to hook it. Please note that I intend to auto cross the car as well. Have close and wide M-23 trans. Have 4:10 and 4:88 third members and Tom's parts in both. This sb ideal just may be a bad call for me as in nccc A and B or b.b and S.b. Run together . I happen to have a lot of LT-1 parts. The end goal is to have a lot of fun , not break the bank be quick, be fast and turn a corner as well. My retired car did that, but I am partial to the 69 FIA cars in looks. That is my age.

The LT-1 Intake is still a great piece....mill the divider down all the way and it is surprising for a 50 year old design.

What do you think this combo would make. A good light weight 406 with .043 ring , dart platinum 200 heads, modified 30/30 cam but still .485 lift LT-1 intake cleaned up with decider cut , good 750 carb. Then what do you think it would pick up porting the heads. I need 450 or more at the tires to be happy. In all of this I am trying to keep the compression in hand to be reasonable for some street time . Thanks again, Al.

Getting to 550 at the rear wheels will require some form of boost, or a much more radical build than you are expecting, IMHO...

Some confusion . I need 450 at the rear tires. With a good car a 100 more at the crank more than covers it. For example in 1971 I had a 69 Bette with 427 / 435 h.p. . Put a 850 carb and l-88 intake on it , good valve job and milled the heads .030. Car went 11.30 at 119 . . That showed 450 at the rear tires no way it made 550 at the crank but I really don't know . I am using a amoroso chart for my figures , I trust it as aposed to joes blowed Dino etc.

I did see an article about a FAST class winner.
They were in the 9s as I recall w/stock looking motor.
These guys modded everything visible, not much was left on the table.
If you are trying to run w/those people, be prepared!

To do what you want to do with that small cam....you need low lift flow and Volumetric Efficiency ( VE or cylinder fill).
There are all kinds of tricks to make power........I suggest you read up on IHRA Top Stock engines......some have every trick in the book.
I think it is doable with 383 cubes but you are going to have to work for it.

Check out the photos and captions.......this is a 373hp 283 (293) with stock heads, intake and carb.......

You are not going to gain much with these heads porting them with that cam......These flow about 265 at .500 lift with backcut valves....

The other 10 more degrees duration with550/570 lift. All are solid flat tap on 106 center lines. In a 383 with 11 to 1 compression what do you think?
I think my car would lose 50 to 70 from the crank to the tires. So may be 520 at the crank will do me. I plan to spray it to get in the 10's.
