Perhaps. I vaguely recall someone telling me it had to do with part of the transmission spinning after it was in a forward gear and the clutch is pressed in. Then when you put it in reverse it grinds. If I remember correctly there's supposed to be some sort of movement you do with the shifter and/or clutch pedal that prevents the grinding when you put move it into reverse from a forward gear.

On my TKO600 there is also a neutral safety switch built into the transmission. I connected mine through a relay (as the transmission switch is only designed to provide a signal to a computer) so that the car will start with either the clutch depressed or the transmission in neutral.

if youre not used to it you only have to reach through the window and turn the key once then watch your car take off no switch needed afterwards.

It's a mind-set and a discipline.
I grew up driving cars that didn't come with safety switches back in the 60s and have ended up disabling them ever since (along with that annoying reverse gear ignition lock).
I ended up re-purposing the one on my 69' as a clutch status switch for my PCM.
It all depends on your preference and how well you trust yourself.

I hate modern cars that attempt to idiot proof every function. Its the first step on the slippery slope to self-driving cars. With that said, I think the neutral safety switch on the clutch is a good idea. You can connect the two wires together to eliminate the switch, but I wouldn't.
