Default Help - '69 Wiper Door Vacuum Relay Location

I'm trying to determine the location and method for mounting the wiper door, vacuum relay on my '69. The firewall is original and unmolested for the most part. The inner fenders have been replaced. I can't find any holes in the firewall near the master cylinder that would indicate it was mounted in that area (as shown in the AIM) and there are no pre-drilled holes or "dimples" in the RH inner fender for guidance. I read in an old thread that early '69s had the relay mounted in the RH inner fender and in March of '69 it was moved to the firewall near the master cylinder. My car's build date is 16 Jan 69.

Forum searches have resulted in some relevant discussion on the topic but many broken links to potentially helpful pictures.

Thanks,
-Doug

Found a forum thread that was most helpful but NOT from using the forum search engine but from a google search. Will have to remember that in the future.

Hi Doug,
Here's the location of the wiper door relay mounted on the rear of the right side apron on a 71. (Looking through the opening for the side grill that 70-72 cars have.)
Note that it's QUITE close to the fender.
Does this help?
Regards,
Alan

Ah! You posted while I was finding the photo.

Thanks CG. Looks like there's two brackets - one attached to the relay and one attached (riveted?) to the firewall.

The one bracket is permanently mounted to the relay when it was made. There is a vertical flat metal plate with a horizontal 90 degree bend at the top for the relay. It's mounted to the bare firewall with 3 pop rivets. The pop rivets were installed from inside the car so the wide head is up against the fiberglass for better support. The relay mounts to that plate with 2 hex head bolts (in pic). There should be 3 small holes there (lengthwise or front to back) in the side part of the firewall for the mount plate and 3 rivets unless somebody filled them.

If your mount plate is gone and you have to make one it is a 3 1/2" wide plate and 3 1/4" high with the top 3/4" of an inch of that height folded over 90 degrees where the relay sits.
