I really like the look of the BFGs the best,but I just don't think that they're worth the difference in price especially since it's a S ratted and the coopers and MTs are T rated. There is a $231 difference in price between the BFGs and Cooper and a $92.76 difference between the BFGs and MTs. I think I'm kinda leaning toward the Micky Thompsons or the Coopers. I really like the price of the coopers the best of course but I think the MTs look better and might be a little better tire.
It looks like a lot of you guys really push your Vette's to the max but mine is just cruised with my Wife on the weekends. When I get the urge to raise some hell I get the Mopar out. It has M/T Drag Radials.
Same issues re. finding performance 15" tyres as you guys 'over the pond' - all tyres (tires) sold and legal for road use here in UK have to be EU approved. BFG's and others are available - but are all only rated for 113 mph - hardly an indication of being performance related.......
What is known about Galaxy tyres - although not quite the ideal sizes - most are 149 mph rated

Hmm... I had not heard of this place. I'll call tomorrow--looks like they are in Long Beach CA. If this is really a V-rated 235/60R15, then that price is lower than any of the 235's that I've been able to locate....and these are the only V-rated that I've seen.

I don't care where they're made. If it's the only v-rated tire available it sounds like a pretty good deal. It's not like I'm going to go hot-rodding. Traction can't be much worse than the old tires I have on right now.
I'll try to call them tomorrow and see what the scoop is.

I run the Coopers with black side out. If I was going to run with the white side out, I would run the BFG's. It IS a lot about looks, right? Cooper, Kelly, etc white letters do look kind of cheap. I am happy with the ride, traction, etc of the Coopers.

I have Mastercraft 255/60's on my '82 CE.I live very close to the 13 turn road course track, across from the museum. You get 4 laps for $45.00. A Zo6 pace car keeps you at 100-105 MPH. No tire problems for me.

I agree with everything you wrote except the part about the Cooper Cobra white letters looking cheap. To me they are the best looking of all.
When I replaced my 10+ year old Eagle GT II's on rear of my vette with the Mastercraft Avenger GT (aka Cooper Cobra GT), I found the tires bit better off the line. The old tires may have been OLD contributing to easy spinning but that was my experience. Price was about $150/tire out the door in 2014.

Got tires today (Galaxy R1s, 235/60R15s, 98V{yep, V-rated???wtf?}) look good, blackwall out, went out for a ride around town, got on freeway and sped up (can neither confirm nor deny 80). Smooth as glass. I had actually gotten my last tires spin balanced on the car(Generic Kelly Chargers in 245/60R15s)..... and these were just spin balanced at the tire shop.....nevertheless, smooth.
I won't wear them out before they're 5 years old (checked build date, 33rd week of 2017), I'm not terribly concerned about wear since my old dang tires had lots of tread and they were ancient.

I think that you might have hit the jackpot...A V rated 255/60/15 tire (speed rated up to 149MPH which is light years ahead of the S/T rated Cooper/BFG TA's?
What is the traction, treadwear, and Temp ratings?
If those ratings are remotely performance oriented, I would not walk but RUN for those tires, especially those of you who prefer to run the 255/60/15s.......................
carriljc, does it say on the sidewall where these tires are made. Galaxy is a brand of the Alliance Tire Company. They were acquired by the Yokohama Rubber Company in July 2016. It looks like Alliance has plants in quite a few countries including the U.S.

I agree..I tried to stay with American Tire companies for years with my cars but the tires were simply inferior mostly due to wear, noise, and how they wore over miles. I had BFG ultra high performance all season and summer onlys over multiple sets for years with the BFG KD and KDWS on DD drivers for about 10 years....finally gave up-especially when they were significantly more expensive than the competing tires that were better.
I would not be afraid of tires made in China, as much as I tried to avoid them as well. Just an FYI Cooper makes their tires all over the world including China, Europe, USA, etc...it depends on the cooper model.
I have and have had multiple sets now for a number of years on 2 DD of Cooper's RS3-A-ultra high performance all seasons-GREAT TIRE and MADE IN CHINA....from Cooper. W Speed rated-169 MPH Treadwear-500/Traction AA/Temp A
I also have a set of Cooper RS3-S Summer only ultra high performance for my 94 Mustang GT which I literally just put on before the winter-Y Rated-186 MPH-Made in the USA from Cooper. No real miles on them to evaluate. Treadwear 300/Traction AA/Temp A
On my C3 are Kuhmo ECSTA SPT's 255/45/17 W Rated Made in Korea..Great tire as well.
You can see from the ratings on the coopers the rubber compound differences and the speed rating indicates the tire carcass's ability to shed heat and stay together at speed.
On your tires the ratings indicate:
Treadwear of 400-moderately hard rubber indicating ultra high performance all season..that is a pretty good number for an UHPA tire for traction but indicates moderate wear rate
Traction A-Best rating is AA-ability to stop in the wet-indicates tread design is not optimal to evacuate water for max braking...This number should be AA for a V rating so slightly compromised but heck for under $100..you get what you pay for.
V rating-tire rated in a straight line up to 149MPG...about the best you can get for a 255/60/15

Like many here, I too have given up expecting the well known tire manufacturing companies to produce quality tires for our classic vehicles in anything close to appropriate sizes. I have pretty much given up on Goodyear after decades of considering them to one of the best tire brands to buy. Even after having numerous conversations with Goodyear tire reps at major car shows, I no longer believe they have any interest in our market.
One thing I have discovered regarding Chinese tires however is that there appears to be a major difference between tires manufactured by the major brands (Goodyear, Michelin,Toyo, Cooper, Pirelli, and Kumho) in China and Chinese-label tires or those made in China under contract for some private store labels.
According to Goodyear, “We have same global quality standards around the world, the standards are the same whether we make it in Oklahoma, Germany, Brazil, Indonesia, or China, the product standards are the same.”
Michelin essentially says the same thing, “Michelin is very persnickety. At the Chinese plant you couldn’t tell if you were in China or in South Carolina. The plant has the same controls, the same machines and the same uniforms on the workers.”
