But also remember stainless is harder than ordinary iron/steel and if the brake cable is made of steel it can wear down fast when in contact with stainless.
I dont know how fast or long time it will take but maybe a thing to think about after seeing a program what a simple change of 1 part can do to other parts that are still original.
I was not happy with the little 5/16-24 bolts with the 5/16 heads to hold the U Joint straps. I ordered up some ARP 5/16-24 Stainless 12 points. Stronger than grade 8 according to their website. A problem: even though they have a small a 3/8 12 point head, the integrated washer measures at .620. Too wide to fit the strap. So, I machined .100 off the integrated washer, polished them up, and got a bigger contact on the strap, and able to torque them much tighter. Plus WAY prettier!
Some decent progress. Got the Team G manifold bolted down, as well as getting the custom trans crossmember completed and powder coated. This allowed me to measure and get the driveshaft made, and powder coated it the same color as the half shafts. Getting ready to put the engine in now! Yipppee! Some pix also of the mess that I found as I took the body apart. Big globs of hard-as-rock glue slathered all over the place, as well as overspray, popped rivets, and insulation. An ugly sight indeed!
Did you buy the flywheel and clutch together? I see the blue paint on the flywheel teeth and the same paint on the pressure plate, usually they use that as an alignment guide. If the mfgr balanced the flywheel and pressure plate together, they use the paint so you can bolt them together in the same position as they were balanced.
I got the flywheel, used, from a friend, and bought the complete clutch assembly from Ram. But, now that you've brought it to my attention, it's mighty unusual that the same color blue was sprayed. I'll bet they did that when balancing the whole deal, and I'm mighty glad you brought it to my attention. I need to check that out and probably make those blue paint marks line up.
Just got off the phone with the engine shop that did the balancing. Those paint marks should indeed be lined up. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention metal tech.
It's been a great Holiday season and a great 2018. Reached my fitness goals (from 215 lbs in 2017 to 170 just before Thanksgiving). Turned 60 on December 30 and swam a 50 freestyle in 30.33 seconds just before birthday dinner. Went on a trip to Nashville and Memphis. Saw Graceland, and hopped up Interstate 65 to the Corvette Museum. Made huge strides on the '80 too! This Corvette should feel fortunate. An '80 305 car would never dream of a redo like this! Onto the pix. Complete chassis/engine marriage. This part was very fun, as it all was familiar territory as far as rebuilding. Lots new to learn, but that came easy enough thanks to y'all (just got back from Dixie y'know!). The next phase is the body, which I'm an eager novice at best. Have been working on paint stripping. Then fiberglass repair, then getting ready for paint as the weather warms.
The next part of the project is repairing fiberglass and acquiring fiberglass. The parts I've been getting are off of wrecked or parted cars, and require work and/or glue removal. I've been doing the grinding outside to avoid a mess in the garage. The days to do this have been limited because of crappy weather.
