If you are keeping the stock LS& oil pan, add Improved Racing's windage tray and crank scraper. Stock tank? Add the Aviaid baffle or go with the better Peterson tank- 1/2 the price of GM's tank.
This is the GM LS7 carb intake. The Fi holes were an added bonus I guess. I’m hoping there is a freeze plug or plastic plug I can glue into place.
Im keeping it dry sump, and I hope to find a used GM tank or Peterson tank. I’ll buy a coil pack and harness and an MSD ignition controller. Keeping an eye out for all of the above on eBay and the Corvette Forum.

I like the LS3 dual plane intakes. GMPP in the$500 range and Holley has one under $300. Don't know if they fit an LS7 though. Injector boses are cast in but not machined on the GMPP but nothing on the Holley intake. Just makes a statement for how important mid-range torque is for a street motor.

I need a crank pulley and all accessories and tensioners and alternator and power steering pumps. Does this seem like a good deal?

The engine assembly is complete! I gotta collect a whole lotta parts before I pull the running fine 383 out. Is the LS7 crank pulley and different from other LS crank pulley’s?

Just a word of caution (I haven't read the whole thread), if you're going carb'd, it's going to poke through the stock hood. Do some research.

The LS7 has a longer crank snout to accommodate the dry sump pump. Therefore, it requires a different crank pulley like this one:
https://paceperformance.com/i-238700...-balancer.html

If you're not running AC, then here's a drive system that would work for you, but you'll still need the LS7 crank pulley:
https://paceperformance.com/i-648540...7-engines.html

Here's a complete system with AC, similar to the one in your ebay link, but brand new:
https://paceperformance.com/i-625543...7-engines.html

If you have AC and have an R4 compressor on the car, Holley make a kit, P/N 20-144, to mount them on the LS,.
The bracket itself is P/N 20-133P.

I've heard that the later model AC compressors (like in the auction that you're looking at) have compatibility issues with the older cars, which is why most kits use the Sanden compressors and some use the R4. Also, the price of $720 + $75 shipping seems a bit high for used parts, especially if you can't use all of them.

One other thing to consider is the power steering pulley - I've read that some guys have had interference issues with the a-arms when using the Corvette accessory drive and have had to run a smaller power steering pulley. If this is the case, you might want to consider an underdrive balancer too, so that you don't spin the PS pump too fast. I'm considering going that route with my LS2 swap, but want to see if it interferes before I spend more money on another pulley and another balancer.

Good luck with the swap.

Engine looking good. Make sure to vent the engine properly. Those small fittings for stock hoses are not large enough. My recommendation is a -10 on each rocker cover, -12 (preferably -16) out of the tank, with each of these going to a vent can and block off the valley plate with a pipe plug. Also add an in line oil filter between scavenge oil out of the engine and tank in. 60-65 micron is fine.

Thanks, but no AC. Good info on pulley. Hey, your right there in Camarillo. I’d love to see your conversion.

Bee Jay,

I'm at about the same point as you. I'm getting everything together and making sure it all fits correctly before I pull out the running motor & trans.
My goal is to have it done in time for the autocross events that start in Feb/Mar, but I also have a fire pit project and new sprinklers that I'm working on in our backyard and I only have so much free time, so we'll see how it works out.

I'll have to take some pics and start my own thread so that I can share my progress.

Take Care,
Chris

I'm ready for the flexplate. I'm bolting this LS7 to my 700R4. Will any LS flexplate bolt to the LS7 crank? Will this flexplate work? I thought I'd ask because the LS7 requires a special balancer/pulley.

Thanks.

I taped each hole with a 3/8” npt tap. Then I torqued earls hex plugs into each injector hole @ 30 ft lbs with some gasket sealer.

Default Steam vents

i bought this kit for my steam vents.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-306S0601
I went to install this but noticed that the rear vents are plugged. Does the back of LS7 heads come plugged. I can’t see the back of my heads in my 427 Convertible.

What an awesome motor, shame they have so many issues! What most of us woulda done to find an aluminum 427 engine with 350-400 cfm heads 20 yrs ago.

If you got a friedn in the dealership Im looking for a cheap replacemetn for my 02 5.3 (5.3 or 6.0) 24 tooth reluctor

Making slow progress. The crank pulley is mounted, so is the modified flexplate. I bought and modified the water pump. Since I don’t run a heater, I tapped and plugged the heater outlets. I found this really cool oil cooler outlet. I also mounted the LSX motor mounts. I also installed the Trick Flo steam vent lines. The back holes are plugged and need opening.

Oil cooler adapter.

Flexplate redrilled for my 700R4.

The back of the flexplate is about 1” from the trans mount surface.

LS7 pulley and water pump mounted.

Water pump heater hose mod.

LSX motor mounts.

Next purchase, Corvette pulleys, tensioner, idler, and alternator and power steering.

Trick flow Steam vent lines. I think I’ll connect to top of water pump.

You might want to check with the guys over on LS1tech in regards to plugging the heater hose inlet and outlet. If I understand correctly you shouldn't just plug them. Coolant needs to circulate from the inlet to the outlet to cool the car properly.

Just FYI. I have a 2013 L92 on my engine cart with a stock LS flex plate bolted on and it measures the same as your pic. So your starter should line up. Can I ask why a 700R instead of a built 4L60E or 4L80E?

That is what is behind my 383 sbc now. A built 700R4 with a custom built 2500 stall lock up converter.
