Default 1979 L48with manual trans - heat shield on exhaust pipe

I have 1979 L48 with manual trans in my build book I see a heat shield going over the exhaust pipe and connecting to the exhaust hanger that connects to the transmission mount. However when I look at corvette supply sites I can not find the shield. I am looking at the exhaust kit from corvette central and do not see a shield. Does anyone know if this shield is really needed. thanks in advance, pics attached from my build book.

The shield helps to keep some of the heat away from the floor pan. "Needed" would be up to you. I kept the shields on my 80 when I changed the y-pipe, but that was a personal choice.

GM has a collective army of engineering skills that go way beyond anything found in the aftermarket. They were not known for putting extra cost items in the cars just for no good reason. Maybe not absolutely required for the car to motor down the road but you have to know it was put there for a reason.

If you decide to install something there you may need to fab it up if you can't scavenge a used one to install. Having the manual is cool as you might Google the part number and get lucky.

Found the part #356953, but can not find part from any of the major corvette suppliers. Do you know what gauge the steel shield would be, worse case I would have to make one.

I have the small shield, plus the one that goes above the cat. Pm me if you are interested. My price is better than the one on e-bay.
