The replacement rear valence is available:

https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...s-molded-70-73

You’ll also need a chrome part on each side that fits around the cutout. With luck, theyre in your parts pile.

Shorty headers- Any Suggestions
2.5 back w/ H pipe or X pipe what's best for scavenging hp?
Into Chambered Mufflers and out the back in stock location

Can I purchase new valances with cutouts for rear exit, or is it best to just have the muffler shop cut them out?
Have a look first at how your rear valance is now.
If it's "one piece" then you can probably replace it with a stock piece and sell the one you have. If it's the original with the cutouts simply glassed over OR with filler pieces in place of the cutouts then personally I'd likely reverse what you have.

Bezel! As a side note, any part that you can’t figure out a name for is either a bezel or an escutcheon.

Which ever way you decide to go, do the pipes in stainless steel. It will cost you a little more now, but will be well worth it down the road when you don't have to replace it in a few years.

Hi,
Here're a couple of photos of the valance being changed from the side exhaust rear valance to the under car rear valance.
How you proceed, and what valance you use, will depend on how the part of the original under car version of the exhaust opening in the QUARTER PANEL was handled.
You may be able to cut the exhaust bezel opening back into the quarter panel; then you can use an under car exhaust rear panel.
You do need a flange on the quarter panel and exhaust panel to bolt the 2 together and mount the exhaust bezel.
If you're sneaky you can do it without having to paint the quarter panel... just the valance panel..... and maybe not even that depending on how the opening was filled and if the flanges were cut off.

Regards,
Alan

Beautiful car. Congrats. FWIW I have a system from Corvette Central and I really like it. Its a reproduction of the factory 2 1/2" dual exhaust system. I have the factory style mufflers but the system is also available with Magnaflows if you want a little more volume. I like the factory style system because the factory designed it with a bunch of crimps and tweaks to maximize clearance, which you don't usually get with a custom system from a muffler shop, no matter how good they are. Yeah we can argue that the crimps reduce flow, but I doubt if its a lot, and I would give up a couple of horsepower to not drag my exhaust over every speed bump and pothole.

If the rear valance is filled in there is no way I'd cut it back open.. you can get factory style pipes that are quieter. And there are fiberglass covers that can be painted. Some places can even put a chrome like finish on them.
There's no way I'd take a saw to that back panel

If you have a chance and the dollars get rid of the restrictive 2" air cleaner assembly. You need the factory style drop base air cleaner with the 3" element.

Hi Td,
I agree with MW that the drop base, 3" filter, and chrome plated lid, is really a classic small block engine appearance.
Perhaps you should consider one in the future.

Alan

I have a factory 1970 rear valance for sale in the parts forum. I will throw in the chrome exhaust cutouts as well.

I would do real full length headers, 2.5” exhaust, with an X pipe, and non chambered mufflers. (Unless you use the Hooker Aerochambers, they are straight through flow).

I’d do the Hedman 1 5/8” headers with ball flange collectors, 2.5” aluminized or stainless pipes, into some good mufflers like Magnaflow, Pypes, or the Aerochambers. Then put the stock 1970 square tips on them. It will look, sound and run much better then side pipes.

Hi Guys,

Is this the aircleaner you are referring to? I probably only need the base though.

I like your thinking! I have had good luck with Magna flow in the past very high quality stuff.

That site with the chrome air cleaner lid shows a photo of the drop-base part, but I don't believe that is part of the sale item for that price. I think that price is just for the lid.
