auto parts store used to stock em.
trouble was that even getting one that is supposed to
be for your car, they were not setup right.
big deposit for the core.
then the whole numbers markings will be wrong.
good luck

I don't know where you live, but I would check to see if there was a carburetor service in your town. Somebody that had been in business for a good while and has a good reputation.
I can tell you that buying a rebuilt from an auto parts store is a real crapshoot. I have a friend with a 68 Camaro and his mechanic is on the fourth carburetor and still no luck. Evidently his "mechanic" is more of a parts changer.
I had a nice conversation with two local carburetor service Techs at a car show/swap meet and they were explaining why rebuilt quadrajets from some big rebuilders had problems. There are a pretty large number of parts for Quadrajets and not one rebuild kit fits all. There are a number of kits and individual parts for different Carbs. They explained that the big guys standardize on an inventory of core parts and make them fit all rebuilds by drilling passages, adding bushings or whatever is needed to make the parts they use fit. The result is the carburetors don't always work as designed and if you get the proper rebuild kit per the carb part number, the parts won't fit any more because the carburetor is no longer standard. The Techs say often they have to be detectives and figure out what has been done when modifying the carb and then reverse engineer it to get it back to spec.
Lars, as mentioned in a previous post, is an expert and Zen Master of the mysteries of the Quadrajet. Hopefully he can point you to someone that can help you get a good carb, or has one available.

You could get a rebuilt Qjet from Summit, supposedly tested and tuned, but who knows what "tested" means.
I purchased one several years ago and now am having issues - most likely from ethanol gas...

Look for a used, unmolested carb at scrap yard, forums for sale section, cl, ebay, etc and then send to Lars for a rebuild. You could also send your current carb to Lars for an assessment.

E-mail me for a copy of my "Commercially Rebuilt Q-Jets" paper before you waste your money on buying a "new" Q-Jet (there are no new Q-Jets available). I can also send you some info on how to locate a rebuildable carb core.

have you checked at the corvette junk yards???
Socal in California
Paragon
Doc's corvettes in Tulsa
any of these or more might be able to help.
do you need a new carb, or can the one you have be rebuilt??

I guess I need a new one. I was told the Q-jet I have was not worth rebuilding, not sure how true it is. The Q-jet is not the original either.

Another Vendor to consider would be the folks at AED Performance which will make you a carburetor that will work from the day you bolt it on. The make custom carburetors that normal people can afford.

I bought one of the carburetors and when I bolted it on I found that they had jetted the carburetor so close I did not have to make any changes to their settings.

There is a place in Jacksonville Fla called National Carburetor. They sell and rebuild Q-jets, holleys, etc. Check out their web page...

Kevin just found a really nice, original, unmolested 1969 Vette Q-Jet in rebuildable condition for $75. Nice going! Rebuilt and set up, that carb will run really well!!

Q jet core
I have several stored in my garage. I did look years ago for a correct Q-jet for my '70 350/350 REALLY hard to find. One is for a ' 69 396 as I remember Probably more valuable for a restoration of the right car. I do have other newer ones . Let me know Steve 206-632-1118 1972 L-48/LS-5 on CL Seattle now.

I bought mine from Monza Carburetor. I think they are in Missouri. They should come upon a Google search. I think I paid around$400 for mine.

Peter ("twinpack" in post above) is going to send me his carb for a test and checkout before he runs it on his new engine. It will be interesting to see if this commercial builder provides a good carb. We'll keep you posted with test results and a fair evaluation...
Kevin, the OP, is considering sending me the rebuildable '69 carb he just picked up off eBay. If he does, I'll post up some photos and an evaluation of the carb, and outline the process of getting it running nicely.
