Was there a trailer hitch factory option on a 72 Corvette Convertible ? When I took the fuel tank out found a trailer wiring harness and there is some sort of bracket on the rear spring center shackle .

Hi df,
A trailer hitch wasn't an option that could be ordered to be installed on the car in St.Louis.
It would certainly be possible though that a hitch could be added to the car by the dealer before delivery to the owner.

This one might be an example of what you described.
Part of the installation involves the rear spring support.

I had a C4 Vette with the snow plow option. It was a special option for the Denver area. The plow and the yellow flashing light were part of the option package:
