Default Water Pump Rebuild

Looking for help. Trying to rebuild my water pump for a sbc 327/350 L79. I can rebuild differential, transmission and motor. I'm being stumped by a water pump So I purchased a rebuild kit and trashed the water seal, so I was able to buy just the seal. Tried again today and trashed that one. I am doing something wrong. I have rebuilt pump seals in the past but these seal are a bit different in that they are two piece like I am familiar with but the two halves are are held together via a SS sleeve. The sleeve needs to be pressed on to the main bearing shaft. When I do this it binds the shaft to the point it wont spin and I deform the seal. My best guess is the two pieces need to be separated and the sleeve is for shipping. Please set me straight on this. I am getting a little frustrated and will be buying a third seal. Help

Go to Corvette magazine C3 section about the fourth page. Step by step.

If you just want to get back on the road...

Look up the part on the Delco Website:
http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/cat...log_search.php
1955-1970 Corvette SBC Water Pump, Delco 252-581

Then order from Rock Auto or Amazon:
http://amzn.to/2oST3mT

$45- and you are back on the road. Buy two, and swap the parts into your original housing.

there are few posts because usually we do not rebuild them, we replace them, unless you want to keep it "numbers matching". there are places you can send it off to be rebuilt correctly, usually freight costs more than the rebuild. I have my original in the box that the replacement came in. look up on the internet for place for rebuilding, call them and stress that you want the original back and not someone else's! JMO
