Default Chin spoiler / airdam

1969 stingray convertible
I would like to add something that will increase front down force, add airflow to the radiator.
anyone have experience with this style. Looks like air flow would be great, but does it offer increased down force? My front end "floats" when i get up to speed.

Not familiar with that spoiler, but we make the HD cooling spoiler for the 1979 cars that people add to the 1968 and newer cars. The only issue is we are about two weeks from having more, Zip and CC bought all our stock up on Friday.

I'm sorry i didn't elaborate a bit more... this rubber extension was added to cars in 1979 with HD cooling on cars that didn't have the pace car style spoilers. It provided more air flow to the radiator...

Oddly, the only way I ever knew about this extension was the fact that my own car in 1979 had it. It originally had two metal retainers behind it and of all things... it pop riveted to the ABS spoiler. (that was what caught my eye on it, it just didn't look like something the "factory" would do).

So, when I owned this car I was worried I'd tear it up and ordered me two extra's. Then GM discontinued them so I made them in reproduction when I got to 1 left in stock.

We sell tons of these so they must work... but they will work on any car 1968-1979. It takes me about 2 weeks to get a run on these done and we called it in this morning so we'll have stock soon, or you can go to zip or cc and get one quick.

I don't know about downforce but the spoiler extension really helps keep my 496 BBC cool at speed.

Awesome.. I've had a hard time keeping these in stock, they are very popular. On top of that... I make nothing over seas so I have a local small company here in town that makes them for me.... They are not real fast but I'd gladly trade that over sending them to China.

Support the locals guys and stop sending stuff out of our country....

They give you zero downforce!

They divert airflow from going under the car, and you gain some stability!

Reducing airflow under the car reduces lift, but it's not enough to create downforce.

In your picture you have two holes set up for air cooling hoses to the front brakes. any amount blocked under car air flow decreases front end lift.

An air dam nearer to the front suspension in front of the radiator gives you front end clearance and best cooling.

I made a custom rubber air dam that is very close to the ground. The front end is a Daytona TT that is very aerodynamic

I bought mine from a GM dealer in 1990 after noticing the spoiler extension on a 79 in 1989 while at a car show. I went to a local Chevy dealer parts department and ordered mine (which is still the GM one that I ordered today on the car), waited a week or so for it to come in, and went and picked it up. The parts guy told me at the time that the L-82's with Heavy Duty cooling only got the spoiler extension from the factory and years went by before I ever saw the spoiler extension on a non 79 C3. I originally was chasing a cooling issue with my L-82 and the reason I purchased the spoiler extension......It solved the heat issue at speed with my L-82. The 79 Only with this spoiler extension with the heavy duty GM cooling package also came from the factory with an electric fan mounted inside the lower mechanical fan shroud area inside the hood in the engine bay that came on only periodically for additional airflow when the car was not at speed. I recall paying $20 for the piece from GM in 1990! The spoiler extension was mounted by me in 1990 with aluminum bolts/nuts that I bought from a local hardware store and has never been touched by me since then...stainless screws and nuts were hard to come by in 1990 and I was looking for a light weight fastner that would not rust. You can see in this picture from 2017 that my diligence paid off...no rust!

This is a GM spoiler^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Yes....lift was/is noticeable reduced at high speeds and the car's stability was/is greatly improved!

Quick tech question,
Does this get pop riveted to my original stock shorty 68' air dam?
It looks like a good functional idea.
Thank you,
Marshal

I have the same question. My 69 has the stock short dam. I already have 2 electric fans, heat is no issue at speed. I just want better stability.

Will this mount onto the short stoc polyurethane spoiler? Or would the short one be removed and as this extension put in its place?

On my '75, it mounted to the stock spoiler (part #3). Basically line it up, drill some holes and pop rivet using a piece of aluminum stock (in place of part #6). Simple and easy.

You are sure the "floating" isn't caused by an alignment issue or excessive steering box play?
