Default Good shock for a SMOOTH ride ..

Have a 73 .....Shocks on the car were replaced by me about 14 years ago and 17,000 miles....
Have Gabriel red Ryder on there now.....Stock leaf spring,255-60-15 tires all around...

Car does ride good, as Well as expected I guess...Any smoother ride would be beneficial...
I don't want to go KYB...I had them years ago in another car and the car was too stiff...

The Vette is just a pleasure car and not a daily driver.......Any suggestions for a good all around shock with the focus on comfort ?

Thnx....

Surprised me since they're not marketed as a "comfort shock", but the Bilstein HDs have the best ride of any shock I've run.

I know you don't want KYB but I went with regular KYB on rear and KYB GR2 on front. Great ride (when I drive the C3). They will probably be the last set of shocks I ever buy for the C3.

I know you didn't ask this, but if you want comfort, a fiberglass rear spring will do more than anything.

There are two Bilsteins for C3s: HD and Sport, with HD being the softer ones.

The KYB GR2's are the most comfortable shocks I've had on mine. These are their grey/silver shocks, not the stiff white ones. Had the high pressure white ones on my car years ago and hated them.

I took the KYB GR2's off because they were too soft for how I use my car, but the ride was spot on regarding comfort for cruising. I'm currently using Edelbrocks (no longer available), and am going to try Bilsteins sports next time for track days.

If you are keeping the car "forever", put Bilstein HD's on it. If not, put a decent quality gas shock on it (Monroe Gas-Matic, ie).

Bilstein HD's with a composite spring for the best of both worlds, handling and ride. If you are going to use a mass market shock, KYB GR2's. Have never had the KYB GR2's on my 78 but did have them for a time on my daughter's Pontiac Grand Prix and they were too soft. The GP now has Monroe Police/Taxi struts and they are stiffer than the GR2's but still VERY comfortable...no floaty ride

Not bad. Cheaper than Summit. That's hard to do.

The KYB GR-2 and Excel G are the same shock. It's an OEM mass market shock designed to mimic the OEM shock, as an FYI: From KYB's website below

What is the difference between the KYB GR-2 and the Excel-G products?

We apologize that this is a bit confusing. Both products are identical, except for the product name and paint color. KYB sells products throughout the world. Some part numbers fit vehicles from various countries that share the same chassis platform but, have different nameplates. At one time there were several KYB brand names, but we are now moving toward one name and color. So in the future all new part numbers will be branded as Excel-G and have black paint

I would read this first about Corvette Mods. No longer a vendor for a reason: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...vettemods.html

I have Bilsteins, HD series on my '68 BB and the ride is as good as your going to get out of this cars ride design. They have been on all 4 corners now for 7 years.
No problems or complaints.
I have not changed the original rear leaf spring but I'm sure that would help as well.
