Default 69 Half Shaft Re-installation issues

Replaced my U Joints last night, and having a really hard time getting the half shaft reinstalled.

When I put it up to the rear dif and start to secure the outer side (hub) it feels too short, and wont reach the hub. When I install the outer first then I can not get the retainer to start threading to the bolts. If I get one going the half shaft shifts and I am unable to get the other side started.

What am I doing wrong?

Probably, the trailing arm(s) have spread apart a bit.
