Same, but on a 78. 78+ had optional 255/60-15s from the factory. Pretty much the same section width and outside tire diameter as what the OP is posting.

So now that we all know that the wheel is at basic correct width as the factory wheel...and if it is centered like the factory wheel with the
spacer hub...then it seems to be all boiling down to the tire itself...or...modifying the stop on the lower a-arm to keep it from hitting.
On another note...You might want to address this.
In the photo below...it really looks like your rubber brake hose is kinking or darn near kinking which is NOT good.

I went to a professional shop and he recommended changing 2 things. In the front
1. changing the 2 inch adapters to 60 Millimeters.
2. changing the tiers from 255/45/18 to 235/45/18.
I custom ordered from motorsport-tech Adapter - Hub & Wheel Centric 60mm, 5x4.75 the back 70.3 to 5x4.75 The front lip 72.6, 7/16 studs/nuts.
2 Adapters cost $180 shipping 25 total cost $205.

Something is wrong here either the information or the car has problems 18x 8’’ with 255x45x18 on the front with, 18x8 40 mm offset running 2’’ spacers should not rub on the frame .
The bulge in the tyre should be 7mm further away from the frame than the stock 15’’ set up.
You will have some wear on the steering stops, it’s not hard to set up an adjustable stop, to see if the stops, are part of the problem.
I’ll post a photo tomorrow.
If you go to 60mm spacers you will find that the tyre will rub on the guard on full lock.
I have 19x9.5 -6 offset 275x35x19 on the front of a 70 model no rubbing any where

Really? You trusted someone at a shop that told you to install smaller width 235 tires. So you can have less steering and braking abilities. When the answer was smaller diameter

The tire shop didn't try to up sale he just gave his opinion!. I bought the adapters and tires online and I did want to really keep my new 255 45 18.
Just to make sure I did checked the frame and it's straight. But still couldn't find what's wrong!!.. maybe a front tire alignment?
The 60 mm adapters & 235/45/18 tires is plan A
Bolt on 18 inch wheels is plan B

On line you can find out the best alignment setting that you need like on the vb&p Web site something like.
.negative. 5 degrees camber minimum toe in like 1/16th and maximum of caster . You can get over 4 with stock

Here is how I check my wheel base after alignment to make sure left vs right side is the same.
If your tire tread is consistent on all tires and tire pressure, the distance should measure 98" both sides. If your off of 98" (more than 1/2" then you need to look at the suspension setup or possible body mount. (wheel not centered in the wheel well)

I am at stock set up now. But I did bought QA1 in the front single adjustable and Bilstein HD in the rear. I am planning to install them after a month or so.

Steel bumper cars have tighter space for the front wheels so
with 255 it can rub on full lock
so you can go with 255 and might do aome modification to make it work or go with 245 that shouled work with no problem.
i prefer to mount the widest tires i can up front , with no abs or esp we only count on our tires, more tread ,more traction
