How did you determine that the points/distributor were correctly set up? I’m guessing that the problem is in the ignition. The distributor is a tooth off, the wires are in the wrong place on the distributor. I chased a similar problem on a SBC that was due to the mechanic having the spark plug wires one terminal off.
thanks again for the info. I pulled the wires, broke out the schematic and started her up. It’s like night and day! Now it sounds like a C3!

you got lucky some times after sitting for so long the springs will get compressed on the heads and stay there ,, then your looking at replacing the springs ,, good luck with your summer of fun
