Default 1982 tbi is leaking - car runs rough

I finally got the 1982 running with new 85 fuel pump (ep241 as recommended) and replacing both tbi 3amp fuses after cleaning the fuse contacts that were corroded.

Now the car is running rough and the passenger side tbi is leaking gas on top. Both tbi units are spraying good from what I can tell.

I can not tell where the leak is coming from other than there is way to much gas on top where the injector unit screws to the lower part of the tbi unit. I did try to tighten the torx screws (believe that's what they are called) but all three(3) were tight.

Any suggestions before pulling the unit and rebuilding?

I'm not an expert on crossfire but the recommended pressure was 9 to 13 and then an improvement was found using 14. The 1985 fuel pump was 40 plus, so did you pick the correct pump?

You may have way to much fuel pressure and it blew the gasket on the pod...maybe? What pressure are you running? I would run 13psi on a stock motor and it should run just fine. Anytime you increase the pressure on a CF motor, it's a good idea to rebuild both TBs and install new bladders on both sides.

BTW, there are several TB rebuild kits out there and they are not created equal even though they say they work, they don't. Here is the best kit to buy for a complete rebuild of both TBs... The price may be more now, not sure.

GP Sorensen/Throttle Body Rebuild Kit (TBI) (AutoZone)
For your 1982/84 Chevrolet Corvette 5.7L TBI 8cyl
Part Number: 96-629
Price: $44.99

I had already purchased a kit on ebay since I felt I was going to need since the car was sitting for 6 years.

Brand: WALKER PRODUCTS
Manufacturer Part Number: 18005
Other Part Number: C1682 C1682E

Installed and no more leak and car is not running rough anymore. Just too fast of an idle now...1500 rpm. So I will search that next.

Many on this forum recommend using the 1985 (40psi) EP241 pump since they said the tbi regulator would keep the pressure at where it needed to be. And it solved other problems too they said. That's why I went that way since I had to change the pump. I will cross my fingers that the gasket on the pod does not blow. Next time I may go with the 15psi pump; but hopefully there is no next time.

(Thanks MelWff and Buccaneer)

your choice of pump is fine lots of us run the higher out put fuel pump.with no problem.but you can have a problem with the gaskets in the tb if they are old and worn out.your tb on the drivers side controls your fuel pressure.you need to keep that at 13-14 psi.you need a pressure gauge between the tbs to get a good reading what pressure you have. The factory fuel pump just does not keep up with the psi that you need.

I have no clue what the pressure is between the tbs. Looking at the setup it seems I would have to remove the 3/8 metal line between the two tbs and somehow insert a gauge. That seems like a job. I guess if I have problems down the road I will try that. Unless the pressure may be causing the high idle.

Thanks for confirming the pump I selected since it was this forum that guided me that way. And that makes sense about old and worn gaskets since the front/passenger tb units pod was worn and the 3/8 hole next to the pod had blue stuff rather than a gasket and feel that was my leak. Once I replace all the gaskets and pod there were no more leaks. I only did the front/passenger side since the rear/drivers side seem fine.

SORRY, BUT THIS IS RATHER IMPORTANT! Unless you know what the fuel pressure is, you stand a chance of rupturing the bladders if too high and a fire will ensue. Fiberglass burns quickly, carry a fire extinguisher just in case if you ignore your fuel pressure...jus sayin'.
