Default Taking Catalytic converter out..??..

Have a 1982 C3, new headers and dynomax mufflers. Original exhuast with the CAT in-between.. has anyone removed the CAT and gone straight 3” tubbing back (muffler shop recommended)..??.. run ok? Sound different? Thanks

take the cat off .run a long rod thru it to get all the crap out of it .put it back on .cost is nothing.most shops will not touch a cat unless they are replaceing it.It will sound louder.depending on the mufflers you have ,you should not have a problem with the computer light.If you did get a light ,the fix is a heated 02 sensor.

Muffler shop will not do it for you as it violates federal law.

Legality aside, you would see a slight improvement in performance. More so if your mufflers were not new.

Take the cat off yourself, gut the interior, and put it back OR take the cat off, drive to a muffler shop with the front pipe and rear pipe temporarily suspended, and have the muffler shop weld in a pipe where the cat was BEFORE you went to the shop...no legality issue....RIDICULOUS law, BTW, about cats on 35 year old cars driven a few hundred miles per year.
