Starter not doing anything? Do you have headers? Is it just cranking?

Coil?
Take coil wire off and see if it has oil on it.

had that problem many years ago, after i installed headers. that little inline resistor at the starter was failing after it got hot. spliced in a new one and no more issues.

Classic heat soak. Is the stock starter shield in place?

Very very common.
My understanding is that the two main sources of this problem are: overheated starter (starter doesn't even attempt to roll over) and overheated carb.
-Insulation around the starter helps with the 1st problem; insulating carb spacer solves the 2nd.
-I had this happen to my car once in midwest heat 2 summers ago; mine was the starter overheating.
