New owner here from Texas of a 1977 Vette (attached pictures).
Hi all,
New owner here from Texas of a 1977 Vette. (attached pictures).
The previous owner said that the motor was replaced which was maybe in the late 80's, and I am trying to figure out more about it. I don't know much yet, but from what I have gathered it may be a ZZ4 350 and that is probably pretty general.
The numbers on the front passenger side of the motor are 2M0207 1ZZ4
The number on the intake manifold is 10185063.
I called GM but they were not able to tell me anything yet and that I needed to locate a three letter code on the block.
Any advice welcome! I haven't gotten it running yet, or done anything to more than just gaze at it . I was told there is a water leak once the thermostat opens, but will need to change the oil and such before I attempt to start it since its been about a year since it ran, and before that it was quite a few years. Previously owned by an extended family member.
Thank you for reading!

Welcome to the forum, Calley, and congratulations on your '77!
You'll find lots of great members and helpful information in the C3 section of the forum at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-1968-1982-5/
Members there can probably provide more info but it definitely sounds like the ZZ4 engine. The intake manifold you have is the Chevrolet Performance Intake Manifold ZZ Series Dual Plane Aluminum.
Best wishes with getting her running.
By the way, if I remember correctly, all ZZ4 engines had the center bolt valve covers as shown in your photo. Most of the base 350 engines used the outer bolt valve covers.

Thank you Alan. Yes, This is my first Corvette. I have browsed used ones for sale over the years but never owned one before. I have only driven one once before which was a late 90s model I believe that my friend had. I am very excited and still seems surreal every time I open the garage. I never thought I would have a classic beauty like this.

Very nice car. As a new owner, once you have it running and can enjoy this classic beauty, you'll find a never ending stream of people saying things like "I've always wanted one of those" or "that's always been my favorite body style". It can strike up more conversations than you can ever imagine !
As already mentioned above, there is a wealth of knowledge on this board and you'll quickly come to see just as many willing to help answer questions. So use it ! It will save you tons of headaches and allow you to get to enjoying much sooner !

First thing you do is search, find, purchase, 5 gallons of brake fluid.
Don't ask why.

Welcome from Leander, Texas. I bought mine, supposedly turn key, last October and it is still mostly on the lift 6 months later! Shooting to finish her up by end of July. This forum is very helpful. Be prepared to spend some quality time with her.

Burning Brakes
Alohas! You scored with that motor..My 76 was kinda sad until I added new heads, intake manifold,Sniper EFI with dual sync dist,& roller cam..that's just the motor upgrades. Also done over the last 11 years were a Richmond 6spd trans, coilover suspension, new brakes all around..Once you get her started and running check those brakes! Hopefully your calipers are SS lined.I rebuilt the calipers with O ring seals ,no mo leaking lip seals!Invest in a motive brake bleeder, beats trying the two person method with gallons of brake fluid.Been there done that, beeg waste of time and fluid...These Vettes are like a hot girl friend, the more you spend on em the more fun you have!!

Nice clean looking Corvette! With the numbers you provided and the pics it is a ZZ4 crate motor with intake. I have one in my wife's 78. They came from GM with 10-1 compression and 355 hp. It has a hydraulic roller cam/lifters and if you changed to the GM "hot cam" and 1.6 rockers it brought horsepower up to 396. It's a really nice engine for every day driving and about double the power it came with.

Well the good thing is that you have it on the lift and it sounds like you're making progress! Do you have your own lift? If so, any recommendations on what to get?
