Big Block oil pressure port
Lots of disagreement on the interweb about where to source the oil pressure gauge. Some say oil filter area is not accurate, others say the front port along the oil pan is best for accurate readings.
Use the port on the oil filter on the side? Use one of the two down facing ports on the oil filter? Use one of the ports leading to one of the main bearings on the side of the block along the oil pan?
What are you using on your BB?

I use the side port by the oil filter as well... That's pretty much the "go to" place on a BB.
Besides that, that's where the engine builder/dyno tuner tied the dyno's oil pressure gauge in so....I trust its readings...

OK...but I'm still unsure. There are two ports that face down by the oil filter and one that is up above the filter about 1.5" that faces the drivers side. Which of these are you referring to?

I use the stock port just above the oil filter visible here on my 69 L36 427.

I use the front port on the main feed rail. However the laws of fluid dynamic state that the pressure would be the same regardless of the reading location. Remember its pressure and not flow we are measuring. Just like reading voltage, its irrelevant where you tap in.

Probably doesn't make any difference in my use though.

Over 60% of the engine oil bypasses the filter on HP applications, but my point stands. Port location is irrelevant when it comes to oil pressure. Just like hooking up a voltmeter... I have been doing this way too long... Pick what works best for accessibility for your application. If it were a temp sensor then there is good dialogue as to location. Take care!

I have mine going to the front port on the side near the timing cover. That where it was at when I took the motor out of the donor vehicle. I am pretty sure it was there from the factory.
