i gave up finding an original looking radio that actually does what the sales pitch claims.

had 2, cheap 300$ unit ended up in the bin, the other 600$ unit just fills the dash hole now,

i now use a hidden bluetooth amp and play music from my phone.

Since replacement consoles are inexpensive and available, IMO the path of least resistance is to install a $90 single din radio with bluetooth, replace the dash 4x6 speakers with a $40 set of kenwood or pioneer, and get a relatively inexpensive set of 6x9's for the rear. The 45 degree angled 6x9 mounts available from the vette sites are pricey but pretty nice, if the factory setup is too shallow for your choice of speaker. and they don't eat up space and deny you the ability to fit the t tops back there.

It might not be obvious till you have it set up, but the ability to connect via bluetooth and play music from your phone is about the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I went one step further and added a 10in sub box in the mix. But I used a set of plugs from my radio control aircraft parts pile to make the amp & box assembly easily removable for the times when I want the space. I just pull the rca plugs, the power plug, and the remote plug, then set the box & amp assembly aside. Installation is the reverse of removal

I found my radio by searching on ebay for a few weeks. Was fortunate enough to find a 1980 L82 CB for $150 (half of what they usually go for) Looks pretty sweet!

I recently found a radio south of louisville for $40. You might be interested:

I also installed an aux port next to the ashtray turned out pretty nice. Still thinking about installing a bluetooth unit...

These are the angled 6x9 mounts that are sold on various vette sites. Afaik, they're all selling the innovative corvette products setup. My car was missing the rear speakers and grilles/mount plates, so I just went with these.

Examples of receiver, and front and rear speakers (available lots of places)

The innovative boxes are kind of nice, but at $160 + shipping they're not exactly giving them away. Unfortunately decent 6x9's won't fit in the stock location, so you have to do something. I made my own panel to fit in the stock location and covered them with a piece of spare carpet. Cost was pretty much zero.

Nice setup. And yeah, I couldn't agree more, the ICP ones do cost a lot for what they are.
