I love the older stuff. I wish they still wrote great car songs. The last good one I can remember, is Going the Distance by Cake, and that's not really about cars. But I can pretend.

But here's where some of you may want to puke. So let the flames begin:

Prince, IMHO, is a musical genius. If you disagree, you may not have listened to his stuff closely enough. Or maybe you're basing your opinion solely on what's made it to the radio. Not a great example of what he has to offer. He's got an edge, and soul enough to fill arenas, still, to this day. And he'll charge $80 plus per ticket. Not bad.

Filth? Whatever. Some of the filthy stuff is the best, at the right time, with the right woman.

But hey, to each his own, right? :yesnod:

By the way, thanks for the lyrics and the explanation. I've never had it explained, and it helps to hear it from someone who lived the time. Very cool. :cheers:

BTW...anyone who reads the lyrics will see that Prince is NOT talking about THE Corvette when he refers to it in his song. He is talking about something else ENTIRELY different!

Anyone remember Paul Revere and the Raiders? Did you know they made some car songs too? An excellent one is "SS396". When that Chevelle first came out, Chevy dealers would give you the 45rpm single of "SS396" if you took it out for a test drive. The lyrics:

that's because the idiot I downloaded it from had it listed under Jan and Dean instead of the Beach Boys.

Shut Down was made by the Beach Boys. But Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys collaborated on a lot of songs. Shut Down is definitely Beach Boys though.
