Default Rag Joint Alignment Pins Removal Help!!

I have read about two dozen strings on rag joint replacements. Maybe I missed it but what I have not found is how to get the alignment pins that have the shoulder on the back of them out. I understood from at least one string that the shoulders had to be ground off (which I did) but the pins seem immovable/unremovable still. Is there a trick to getting them out? Are they pressed in as well and need to be pressed out?

Thanks in advance for any help!! Car is 69 convertible which was originally manual steering, now converted to PS. Original steering shaft and steering box.

The pins were expanded a bit when the ends were smashed. So yes, you have to beat them out or use a press.
I set mine on a vise and gave them a wack with a hammer and flat ended punch..
