Default Best Headers

I have a 1981 Vette with a 383 stroker motor 10.5/1 pistons and a fast burn ignition system . I've read a number of articles about which headers will provide the best performance. It's going to be just a street vehicle. I'm not looking to burn the tires coming off the line, more looking for peak performance in the mid range. Any suggestions?

Most long tube headers will provide the same power boost across the board. You should do a search here and be more concerned about fit....a lot don't fit very well and need a tube dented for clearance.
With your setup, I'd look for 1 3/4" long tubes with a 3" collector.

I've had problems with Headman Elites hitting the idler arm.

Is this a Chevy 383 with fast burn heads? If so you will have a problem with the raised ports. There are a lot of unequal length manifolds for these heads but I only found one source for the equal length headers. Stahl Headers. Was not sure about the way you used the term fast burn. Never heard it used on ignition.

If you have aluminum heads, you will likely need a longer reach plug regardless of which brand. And do your homework on the "heat range chart". If for instance the heat range is numbered 1-9 (one to nine) with nine being the hottest plug, another company may list the nine as the coldest plug. Its frustrating that not all sparkplug companies are on the same page.

Dennis, do you happen to have a part # for the raise port Stahl headers? I'm not having any luck finding them.

Look at Sanderson short tube headers.
3/8" flanges, 1 7/8" primary tubes,16ga mild steel, 3" collectors, aluminum ceramic powder coated inside and out.
They make more torque and horsepower, bottom end and mid range than long tube headers.
Better fitment with no clearance issues.

Jere Stahl passed away last year. The business closed prior to that. I don't think anyone else has picked up the line. You might try a post over at Speedtalk or Yellowbullet.
